Depends. It requires some real cultural understanding. For example why a tanuki getting eaten in a hot pot by the people is more funny than anything else, and why all the tanuki (and everyone else) themselves accept it as a fatalistic matter of a fact.
I am not trying to make Uchouten Kazoku any larger-than-life than it is, however it is partly a dive into a cultural rabbit hole. It has those references coming at you all the time. I missed a lot of them when I watched it first time.
