Cheap, good city to live in the US

What would be a good, cheap state/city to live at? All I need in life is a good internet connection, a roof and food.

Texas, a shoebox apartment here is like $500 a month bills included so it's good to start off on. Only problem is the city sprawls and you'd have to have a vehicle or take a bus

I got successful in making indie games but the vast majority of my market is US and I want to move around US conventions in-person to spread the company (give panels, monitor/be at my booths, etc) and eventually set up a real studio (hopefully) in the long run.

Steam requires US companies too for a lot of stuff.

Just moving to the US seems a lot more convenient for a lot of stuff instead of hiring proxies for everything.

I'm also a US citizen by birth (born there, moved away later as a kid. I live in Spain right now.)

The middle of the US sounds dapper too, I've seen places in Oklahoma that are cheap. I'll likely move to some large city first for a month or two to get any paperwork done (company bureaucracy, any IRS stuff, etc), to then move to a smaller place and just chill there until I need to fly somewhere.
