Hey anons, having trouble with my Ethernet.
The issue on the surface is this: the ethernet in my network connections control panel is telling me that there is no ethernet plugged in when there is.
Details about my system:
I built my own computer and have a Gigabyte motherboard with Windows 10 as an operating system. I also have a wireless chip, it is what I am using now for internet. If you need any more info, I can get it for you.
So far I have tried:
uninstalling the ethernet driver and letting it reinstall on reboot.
disabling the wireless chip and disabling/enabling the ethernet from my control panel
Connecting ethernet directly from computer to the jack and from computer to router, router light for LAN does not activate.
Disabling/enabling network discovery.
Using a second ethernet cable, neither works.
testing those ethernet cables with a laptop, with which they work.
checking ethernet port integrity of both the wall and my computer. Both appear to be in good condition, but i'm not an expert and it was only a surface check.
I was going to check if it was my software by booting Linux off a usb drive and seeing if it had connection, but I had trouble getting it to boot so I have not done that.
I then factory reset the computer, keeping files but resetting all apps and settings.
The issue persists. Any ideas on what else I can do to try and fix this aside from taking it to a professional? I'd rather not do that yet.
