This is probably the last place I should come to when it comes to this, but fml at this point

you don't need to soak the thing in anything. you can get a small bottle of the stuff used to clean glasses with, dip a paper towel in it and wipe the screen with that.

you have to do this BEFORE the turning-back-on step
what water does is create short circuits on the circuit boards so that electricity can go places it's not supposed to go
once this starts happening, the higher-than-designed-for electrical current can cause parts of the board to burn out or otherwise get ruined

if your phone gets wet and you suspect water damage, the non-retarded option is to IMMEDIATELY take the batter out and dry it overnight instead of "put battery back in and try to turn it on again" which will just cause more damage

Yeah it was kind of stupid that I turned it on while it still had water in it but it works now, so oh well. Atleast I've learnt my lesson.
