we've got somewhat similar tastes op. i like most of that stuff to an extent so i'll rec you stuff i like
taiyo matsumoto's works in general, he's got a keen sense for japanese realism so his drama and humor can be dry for some, but his art and panelling are great
ultra heaven, very psychedelic, has the same effect on paper as yuasa's stuff animated does
me and the devil blues, very interesting one this, it's about robert johnson, a legendary blues singer who sold his soul apparently, and his story in the deep south
inio asano's stuff (he wrote punpun, one of my faves), very good drama though he can get melodramatic and pushy of his world view, his writing can strike a very resonant chord, to say nothing of his art
berserk, probably been recommended to you, but berserk's an essential, can't really go wrong with reading this one
uzumaki, my second favorite horror manga, it's got a very strange and surreal atmosphere like all junji ito manga, like you're watching a 70s sitcom but the mom who's supposed to be cooking in the background's slowly turning into a black mass of slime
yotsuba!, my favorite slice of life of all time. cutesy but never annoying, very peaceful, sorta fits haibane renmei's atmosphere though lacks its drama
franken fran, ecchi version of dr frankenstein, if the doctor himself was a cute girl who had a very weird sense of right and wrong, gory and disturbing as all hell but quite funny
devilman's trashy to me (MY FATHER'S DEAD AKIRA) but it's silly and funny. if your sense of humor's dark enough, you might enjoy ichi the killer; gory like devilman but much weirder without all the stuff about devils, more yakuza ongoings
