It's very easy to mix SoL with genres like comedy, drama, or romance, but the key to making it SoL is keeping the atmosphere relaxed and the tension low. It's common for these shows to have only loose continuity and to be more episodic, because the less things the viewer has to keep track of the more they can just focus on enjoying the show in the moment.
