Is there a single comprehensive guide/answer as to how to watch this series?

My friends are fucking useless because all they do is argue whether or not Studio Deen adaptation is worth it, should I just start with Unlimited Blade Works or just play fucking VN until it devolves into gacha discussion and how one episode of Apocrypha had good fight. Why can't it be just as straight forward as Kara no Kyoukai?
