I'm confused.

If the Kurds want their own country why did they ask Assad for help against the Turkish army? Shouldn't the Syrian government be more interested in helping the Turks, since the only reason why the Turkish army went into Syria is not leaving a safe haven for the Kurds. In other words: Turkey respects the integrity of the Syrian nation while the Kurds do not, so why did the Kurds ask Assad for help? This doesn't make sense to me.

Could anyone please explain this?
