I agree with the former, the story is improved from the other games, the characters are fun, gameplay is fun, loads of content, music is great but good fucking god is it ugly. If you don't care about the visuals at all, fucking play it right now.
VIII - the weirdest outta the mainline games. The story is fucking weird, stupid and sorta interesting, there's a lot of content, the graphics are great, setting is unique, music is great. The gameplay. Holy shit. I can't really explain to you that fast, but you're either gonna tolerate it or hate it with everything you've got. Simply put, magic is treated as an item and you can junction it onto stats. Doesn't seem bad but can become annoying. Also, the enemies level scale with you so grinding isn't an issue, sorta. MAYBE play, it's a like or hate game.
IX - IMO the best of the series, the ones I've played at least. Story doesn't take nosedives and is never too stupid, at the same time it's interesting and nice. The atmosphere is similar to the early games but not generic at all. Gameplay is nice and simple, grinding isn't necessary at all and encounter rates are fine. The only thing that'll put you off is maybe the dumb character designs, but still, fucking play it. Now. Fuck the minigames though.
X - Pretty game, nice gameplay. Atmosphere, setting and story are love or hate, most criticism is leveled at the cringy cutscenes and dumb as fuck character designs. Recommended if you can get past that.
X - 2 is fine from what i've heard. Gameplay wise. Prepare your anus with even dumber designs and story.
XI - It's an MMO. I heard it's good, but XIV has more players. Go for that I guess if you like MMOs.
XII - Sorta love or hate. Story is good, graphics are nice, the battle system is good, but some people can't get past the offline MMO feel. Fuckton of content. Play if it you don't care about that.
