If you are interested in the magic system and its rules, I recommend:
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood,:
Where the magic powers are ruled by the Law of Equivalent Exchange and the Alchimists are regulated by the chemist.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure [Part 3 onwards]:
This one is a little bit silly and loose with his rules, but the chareters have who have cool "ghosts" with unique powers and weakness. I recomend you start from part one, although part and tow down have magical ghosts, only magical breathing, gay vampires and ancient mayan dieties with rock band names.
Kaiji:
This one doenst have any magic or super powers. Is a anime about bets and games.
But they have unique and well fpresented games, where the players have to some times bet their lives or there freedom. This anime doesn't fear to fuck with the protagonist, and have this great sense of danger and tension akin to HxH.
If you are interesed and well develop characters, I recomend:
Yu Yu Hakusho:
Same autor, the main characters fit the same archetypes of HxH, although I think Yusuke is a way better main character then Gon. The battle scenes are amazing, is a proto-HxH, spacially in Tournament and Sensui archs.
