Arbitrary Conviction The Pros and Cons of Religion Religion has existed as long as we have seen the world. When we were without modern intellect we had only religion to explain the world. Over time, as civilization formed, religion became organized and the concept of Divine law was just beginning. Divine law meant that certain things were not allowed by society. This is where Arbitrary Conviction came in. This was the concept of rules created by a God. They started as simple laws, such as no murder. However, nothing stays simple for long. This is when laws became sins, up to interpretation and morally fueled. Morals are not objective which led to many wars and deaths over right and wrong. To avoid this, many just summed up objective morality with general morality and a gray area was formed. Many justify objective morality with gray areas, but they forget that gray is just a series of black and white. Therefore, the system of objective morality doesn’t agree on what really is good and bad.
