I have a gmail account I use for work. If it weren't for the fact that my work shares information using google drive and had me sign up to gmail I would never have done so.
The problem is that if I try and access my gmail account from anywhere in the world other than my home it blocks my account and says 'this account had suspicious activity and was therefore blocked' until I get home. This means I cannot check my work messages or work on my google docs account outside of home or my work computer.
When I contacted google about this their solution was to sign up for 2 step authentication (give them my phone number and have them send codes by phone) and use Chrome to login to my account.
1. I am not ever going to use Chrome
2. I am not ever going to give google access to my phone
The less personal information I give to google the better. The fact that I even have to use gmail at work is abhorrent. Does anyone have suggestions that don't involve fucking myself to get past this? I can't be the only one stuck putting up with google's shit
