Heya, Anons, I’ve got a handful of hospital related questions I can’t seem to find any solid answers for. In the US, since I assume that matters, and more specificalt Texas in case there’s any state-specific laws.
1) If you’re admitted into the hospital for a suicide attempt, are you allowed to discharge yourself AMA? (I’d assume you’d only be allowed if you said you didn’t plan on attempting again, but I’m not sure on this front - I’m getting mixed results?) This is under the assumption you’re a legal adult, so there’s no guardianship to bother with.
2) Are you allowed to decline visits in the hospital? I assume you are, but I’m not sure. And can you ask for a person visiting you to leave? Like...as in, telling a nurse or whatever that you don’t want them there? Is there a way for them to get them to fuck off, or do they specifically have to be doing something to merit them being made to leave?
3) Is there specifically something that has to be done to revoke your ability to just leave the hospital after signing some forms or whatever? I’ve read that sometimes if they decide you’re a risk to yourself or others they might try to make your parents/guardians decide if you’re staying or not for you or something, but, is there a ‘standard’ for that? A specific point where they decide that your opinion in the matter doesn’t matter?
Thank you!
