Could anyone be so kind as to reccomend me some short stories, it would be most appreciated. Any genre is fine, it would be nice however if they were things I could simply google and find in the interests of convenience, but that's not a strict requirement by any means.

I have a thick book - greatest short stories of the world, compiled by reader's digest in a hard bound.
I'd suggest Salinger, Hemingway, Oscar Wilde (most of his are for kids but happy prince is a good read.)

Ray Bradbury wrote lots of short stories in various genres, tending toward sci-fi & fantasy/horror. You can find several collections of his on ebook sites.

Short stories are the kingdom of 19th century and early 20th century writers.
Writers like Chekhov, Maupassant, Joyce, they all have amazing stuff that is short, specially Chekhov.
Personally i'd recommend Kafka because he's my favorite, In The Penal Colony comes to mind.
If Kafka is too much for you most Sherlock Holmes stories are short stories, The Red-Headed League is very memorable for me.

I'll try In The Penal Colony then, I also was not aware Sherlock Holmes was mostly short stories as my only experience with Sherlock has been reading The Hound of the Baskervilles so I'll give that one you mentioned a read too, and I'll be sure to check out the others too, thank you.

OP: the gold standard for short stories is "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry.
