Is there any pathway for me to get a degree in CS or IT or any desk job field without prior background? I graduated with a BS in pharmaceutical science with high GPA but I can't go to pharmacy school because I am socially retard. I just found out that US Uni refuse most 2nd bachelor application. I feel like I am going to be stuck on welfare for the rest of my life.

Yeah it's called getting certs. Employers don't care what your bachelor is as long as you have one + IT skills (and if you're good enough you don't even need a degree in the first place). Person I know makes 180k in IT with a fucking english lit major so you should be fine.

Cisco certs are the best to break in imo but are heavily focused on the networking side of things. Comptia is kind of lower level/less technical but gives you broader knowledge of the field if you're a noob. After getting either Net+ or CCNA I recommend applying for some L1 helpdesk jobs while studying something more complex. CCNP, JNCP, RHCE, maybe amazon cloud, MCSE. It all depends on what you want to specialise in.

Or you could always just abuse benzos to deal with normies, your choice.

Anon, 99% of people on this planet are normies. No matter where you go, you'll have to deal with them just to have a shot of getting in. At least in IT you can be judged for your technical knowledge instead of bullshit interpersonal skills, but there's a minimum degree of social interaction that you have to put in like sending emails, taking calls from your manager, or attending meetings that occurs at all companies.

If you need to avoid people at all costs then I recommend working at some startup or other flexible organisation that will let you work from home. Go into some area that specialises in servers so you can access them remotely (I don't know too much about this cause I do networking but maybe ask /g/)

It was me. I looked through the admitted statistic and it was Quant 160+ and AW 4+ and 3.7 GPA average. I was cum laudes at my old college and only get 3.69

I won't say it's impossible, but there's not much you can get with a CCNP alone other than maybe a teaching position.

When it comes to high-level endgame certs though, there are a few that are extremely difficult to get but will almost guarantee you a job. CCIE/JNCIE (networking) and OSCP (cybersecurity) are gold on your resume and will have companies begging you to work for them, but these certs are very hands-on so you won't be able to pass their exams through memorization. However, I know some people that get one of these and never bother studying further, because you could literally go your entire career making 100k/year with just a CCIE and still be in demand as long as you have a good track record.

No matter what you end up choosing to study, I still recommend getting a CCNA though. Networking is a fundamental concept in IT no matter what you study, making the cert a flexible option which you can use as your primary qualification to get an entry-level job, or supplement knowledge in a different field to show you're well-rounded. It just takes about 3-4 months if you apply yourself.

And remember, this advice is all situation-dependent. You can increase your chances of getting a job by moving to a less-populated part of the country where your skills will be in demand, or negotiate a below-average salary just to break in.

Yeah I ended up going the call center route but was applying for different jobs the whole time I was there. Eventually you'll find something and be able to move up, but the hard part is that you basically need to be studying every hour that you aren't working to try to break out. CCNA->CCNP->RHCE was my path. Currently studying for the CCIE in my free time, I expect it'll take me at least a year or two until I can complete the exam
Took me 3-4 months to get the CCNA but I already had a background in computers at that point so you may want to study for the comptia net+ or CCENT (basically half the CCNA) depending on your understanding.

Here are a few books about the CCNA in case you ever decide to go the cert route. Lammle's is more digestible material while Odom's is very dry and technical reading so I recommend that you read them in that order.

I work for a software vendor (I majored in English lit, minor in creative writing) and honestly the soft skills are valued just as much as the hard skills. While the engineers won't jerk you off as much for being a really good communicator, you'll get promoted twice as fast. That's why I'm a senior application developer while guys who've been here years longer than me are still only developer 3s. My tech skills are good mind you, but I'm far from a rockstar developer. I got promoted because I'm competent and I know how to communicate effectively and lead a team, and competent developers that can do that are scarcer than you'd think.

college is more about networking with people than getting training for a job. going to the right college can get you a good job no matter what your gpa was. it can be a good place to get training too, because you can easily interact with knowledgeable people who want to help you. you're pretty much on your own studying for a certification outside of school.
