On 4chan, using Chrome, it works because 4chan discards gamma and Chrome honours it. On Safari, it doesn't work because it ignores it always. On a site that makes thumbnails without stripping gamma metadata, you'd get the hidden image all the time on Chrome and the thumbnail image all the time on Safari.
