Arakawa: A very Studio Shaft comedy.
Seirei no Moribito: A good directed adventure-fantasy, a lot of character-centered episodes
Shinsekai Yori: A lot of great world-bulding. The more believable dystopia anime. It's great and the ending is fantastic, but the main characters are (purposely) bland.
Spice & Wolf: great characters, feudal economy
Jinrui wa Shimashita: a pretty cynic black comedy in a pink art style
It has a little moe style, but Haruhi Suzumiya
If you want something more "alternative", try Kuchu Buranko
Tsuritama: from the director of Kuchu Buranko, but a lot less experimental
Silver Spoon: it doesn't have a notorious art style, but it's the best slice of life IMO. Check out Shirobako also.
Mushishi: Slow pacing, cool scenarios, human drama
