That's what made it good. It's not a coincidence that pre-evangelion mecha are about heroism, war, politics and beam-spam, and post-evangelion mecha are about logistics, parenting, PTSD, abuse and loss.

I think you might need to expand on that. It's not really clear what you mean. Most characters in mecha shows are not yet adults, meaning they're entirely dependent on parenting (or lack thereof).

So literally most mecha anime. Having "lives of the people that pliot the mechs" is more generic than "all just action". I get what you're coming from, but I'm also saying that what is perceived as generic is usually the exeption rather than the rule. That said you're likely gonna like Raijin-Oh.
