Me and my gf are looking for an anime to watch. We've had lots of suggestions for more action-oriented anime aimed more towards teens, but we're looking for a series that's more fun and adventurous.

I'm not very familiar with anime. Any suggestions?

Those are very vague adjectives. And they also describe the same shows you indicated you don't want (action-oriented shows aimed towards teens). Can you be more specific? What genres are you both interested in? There's a shit ton of anime out there in a wide variety of genres, but a lot of it is very niche, catering to very narrow, specific audiences.
