I tried to create a shovel out of the first letter, but it was way to wide for the rest of the picture and looked awkward, so I went with some easy style instead...

Since the rest of the objects (hard hat, safety stripes and boot) are based on yellow/light brown colors, I would say yellow-ish...

I transformed the bottom of the letter into the shovelhead... and added some "detail" just to make it look other than a cock... of course we could add some yellow color to the shovel, if you want...

yea, but think about the shape of a diamond: from side view it looks like some arrows pointing down, from top it looks just like a circle
so it would be a 3D diamond for a 2D logo...
