Madoka Magica, Nanoha, KanColle, Mai-Hime, Iron Blooded Orphans, Planet With, Clamp School Detectives, Samurai Champloo, Infinite Ryvius, Valvrave, Daimidaler, Yurikuma Arashi, Utena, and Lemnear are all things on the avoid list.
As for stuff you were recommended, Akame ga Kill was a pretty unlikeable main cast and Overlord deteriorates pretty bad over time.
