Similar anime with themes of cosmic horror/physics defying creatures would include the Eldoran trilogy (it's aimed for kids, but when you stop and think about it the franchise is very fridge horror heavy), Acrobunch, Hell Target, Ideon, Gunbuster and Diebuster, the Aquarion trilogy, Ghost Hunt, Yamato 2199, the Gundam 00 movie, Orguss, Getter Robo Armageddon, New Getter Robo, and to a much lesser degree Daikengo and Might Gaine.
