>>822845Get you some:
- rice (preferably real rice, not pre-blanched rice), one mug's worth
- cooking oil
- stock cubes (the $0.01 cubes are fine)
- can of tomatoes (the $0.10 can is fine)
- onion
1) put rice in pan, and slosh some oil in. Medium heat. Put the kettle on.
2) dice the onion, while stirring the rice occasionally so it won't burn
3) slap the onion in and fry everything until the onion is nice and seethrough and the rice has eaten the oil
4) whack in the tomatoes and a stock cube, and enough hot water that your total volume of liquid is 1.5-2 times as much as the rice. This usually works out as the same mug as the rice, plus the tomatoes
5) High heat and stir gently until it starts boiling, then low heat and leave it alone with the lid on until it's done.
You can add spices you like and other vegetables you like at the same time as the onion. You can put meat in, but this is better as a side to meat than as a one-pot.
The cost-per-portion and cost-per-calorie of this is fantastic, and it doesn't taste like crap.
