There are people who naturally want to know how things are done, and want to get along with everyone and make a positive contribution, and then there are people who see everyone else as NPCs put there to do things for them. You don't want to help or encourage these people, you want to set traps that considerate people won't blunder into.
The concept of lurk moar predates 4chan (the term comes from Usenet), and it does a very good job of keeping a community happy and healthy.
