GIMP Shit

How do I Get a foreground with transparent elements (for example image related) and place a gif behind it in gimp.
I know how gimp will automatically save the later name as "Background (100ms)" as a background but is there a Foreground variant where it can actually be infront of the gif rather than behind?

How long is the gif you want to make. If it's short, you can do it the brainlet way.
>Open gif as layers
>Open cartoon panels as layer
>fit one layer of the gif to the open space (I didn't bother, too lazy)
>copy those dimensions to the rest of the gif frames
>Copy the cartoon panel so that there is a copy above every gif frame layer in the layer box
>Merge each cartoon panel layer to the gif frame layer beneath it
>Go to Filters along the top and hover down to animation/optimize as gif
>export as gif and be sure to click on "as animation" (took me a few tries before I noticed)
>You now have a gif that is technically a series of the cartoon panel, but nothing other than the original gif moves

yeah thats also the solution i came to but i didnt know if there was another "easier" way with my "Foreground (100ms)" idea

No, but that is not exactly GIMP's fault. Animated GIFs know replace mode (where every frame replaces the previous) and combine mode (where every frame will be imposed on the previous one). Combine is more common (as it saves file size since you only need to write the changes from frame to frame). But that means the new frame will always be the foreground.

The only shortcut I know - you could turn the foreground silhouette into a selection and then simply delete the selection in every frame. That way the "foreground" will always shine through if you put it in as a background. The only problem is you need a pixel perfect frame, since the edge will be quite hard and noticable (compared to if you manually superimposed the foreground on every frame as >>865007 suggests since feathering would be merged colour-wise).

Kinda wish there was a way to get around that, maybe by being able to select the images you want to serialize by putting them in a folder or creating a specific mask that can be copied onto all of the frames. Oh well.
