Use qbittorrent or transmission (don't be the fag that still uses utorrent 2.2.1 in 2020)
enable require encryption and anonnymous mode
have file extensions visible
don't run random executables you don't trust
always seed

Some people use vpns but that's usually the case only if your country/state dislikes people torrenting stuff, never used one myself
