Can anyone recommend a good anime which has a premise like war of the worlds, where it's humanity struggling against a horrifying, and technologically superior alien race? I tried looking myself, but nothing I find comes close

Good recomendations, all of them, but to narrow it down a bit and going off >>899235 so I don't get all mechas, I was looking for more dark, hopeless, and completly outmatched by the aliens kind of anime.

alright, the last two. BTW I know they can't all be good by most standards, but out of the hundreds of anime I figured there out to be one that took alot of influence from H.G. Wells War of the Worlds
