ITT: I want to get more into Anime.

I've seen Redline, which I loved, Evangaleon, which I love.

Mecha are my thing, but I seem to like Shonen too - I haven't seen all of JoJo (The last two series) or the last two series of OPM or MP100, but I liked them both too, I've got Akira as well.

I have Cowboy Bebop and the movie, which I'm gonna watch after the 21st episode.

What else do you think I'd appreciate?

However, if you are sure that you're into mecha, give the Gundam franchise a try. It's the juggernaut of mecha, sure, but it has earned its reputation. It sports some very different kinds of anime though, so you might enjoy some Gundam series much more than others. It's almost impossibe to compare the original Gundam 0079 and Victory Gundam, for example, or to compare either of them to something like Gundam Wing.
It is a franchise that, as a whole, had heavy influence on Anno when he created Evangelion though, so that alone should peak your interest.
Speaking of which, another heavy influence of his is Go Nagai, so you might want to check out Mazinger as well.

As for shounen, there's a lot of different things in the genre. Hard to tell what you'd like. You can always go with the classics for a start, namely the original Dragon Ball. Or some of the more traditional-style shounen (Yu Yu Hakusho, Recca no Honoo, etc.), which generally have a better reputation and less of a "factory made" feel to them than post-2000 shounen (not saying that all of those are bad, but there is an argument to be made that at least most of them are cheap cash grabs and worse than the manga they are adapting).

Generally, I'd advise to spread your interest a bit and to explore, especially if you don't have much expperience yet. Why limit yourself to what you already feel secure with?
Risk something. You like shounen? Watch some mahou shoujo anime! You like mecha? Look for a romantic comedy or CGDCT! You like flimsy fast action? Try a character-focussed drama!
The best way to find new things you like is to explore areas you haven't been to yet.

I've retyped the above for reddit, I actually remember watching Gundam Wing when I was younger too, and even though I haven't seen much more Gundam, I have built some Gunpla :).

Outside of anime I love horror, though I've been reading that there isn't much great horror, Parasyte was alright but I found that to be more a romantic drama which I was okay with, but would have preferred more horror.

I have Junji Ito's Uzimaki if that helps? I adore Lovecraftian horror.

I love Batman and the idea of mecha.

- JoJo's Bizaare Adventure, which is practically my favourite out of this whole list, though I haven't seen seasons 4 and 5 yet.

- Dragonball Z, I was quite young though.

- Gundam Wing, I was quite young but it left an impression and made me love mecha

I have "on my list"

- Cowboy Bebop and the movie, I'm currently watching the first episode as I type this and it's an enjoyable watch so far! Going to carry on with this

- Death Note

- OPM Season 2

- Mob Psycho 100 Season 2

- Akira

I somewhat understand how EVA is a critique of Gundam too.

With shounen I think the action is what I appreciate, with a little comedy sprinkled into it and decent animation - I've been considering Ippo for a little while.

I tried to get into Dragon Ball when It was on Cartoon Network when I was younger and it didn't quite click.

I have little bits of Tenchi Muyo memories in my head, I think I watched that whole series when It was on Toonami, but it was years ago and I didn't hate it.

If you want my advice: Stay far away from reddit when it comes to anime, manga or any form of media. Better yet, stay away from reddit for anything else as well.
It's basically a huge echo chamber that, with its system of upvotes and downvotes, discourages dissent and there creates an environment with one dominant opinion that allows for little actual controversy or debate. The same is true for MAL or similar sites.
They are discouraging making up your own mind about things and push you into what they think are the best anime, not what you might enjoy more. (A reason for why I conciously refrain from suggesting my absolute favourite anime unless I'm almost certain someone might enjoy them and often give more general guidelines.)

That depends on your definition of horror. Jujni It, whom you mentioned, has quite a few nice (and often short) horror manga. I don't think anime compare well in that regard, but maybe someone who's watched more true horror anime than I have can help you better in that regard.

Well, yeah, that's sensible. I did not enjoy all of those, but you might.
What I would recommend is reading the Akira manga before you watch its anime. Just for context, and also because it's great.

Other than that, like I've said before, try to leave your comfort zone every now and then. The things you listed all go in the same general direction, and while that does have its positives, it also means that you are limiting yourself too much.

Gundam mostly provides a socio-political commentary on conflicts, war and the human psyche. Each installment to a different extent and with a slightly different focus. It's hard to say what it is about, as a whole, other than the general anti-war message.

I wouldn't say that it is. It has some very blatant parallels to it and doesn't really contradict it. Shinji does even remind me of one type of Gundam protagonist. The character relationships though are more out of Mazinger than Gundam, I'd say.

That makes me think that you might enjoy mahou shoujo as well, though those usually don't have as strong an action focus.

All of these are the best anime I have ever seen so far, IMO! First 3 are godlike, while the rest are just very good. If you want to start somewhere, start with Stein's;Gate, then Parasyte. Prepare to have the best anime experience you will ever have. Nothing will be the same after watching these 2.

You can't recommend something you don't personally like, hence the list is of my favorite anime.

I genuinely think everyone should watch all of these and that they would enjoy them. A lot of them have been recommended to me by people on this board and it took a lot of time to find the best ones and filter the nieche ones that I know not many would enjoy besides me. I really consider this list a treasure of information that probably no one will recommend to you, it's a great place to start with a variety of genres to find your most liked nieche.

I don't understand what is wrong with that. If something is good and loved by many people, I will just reinforce that status.

I missed the fact that he watched Mob Psycho, but other than that I don't see any others mentioned here.

You have no idea how long I've been working on this list specifically designed to recommend to people who haven't watched many anime. I know it looks like a random copy pasted list, but it's not, I put some thought into it. Of course these are all ultimately subjective, as are every recommendations you will ever get, but I say they are as close to objectively good as they can be.

NERV was created as a direct deconstruction of the Real Robot genre. Look at what NERV does, look at all the logistics. There's a secret military base the size of a city descending miles into the ground, and what's it for? Keeping three Real Robots kinda operational most of the time. Just like in real life (and unlike in Gundam) the actual fighting vehicles you see are the tip of an unbelievably huge logistical iceberg submerged beneath Tokyo III.

Now think about who's actually running NERV: half a dozen angsty tweenagers who all met in college. Think about this for a second: NERV has to have tens of thousands of workers in it, everything in NERV is enormous, and they represent the Eastern hemisphere's last hope in saving humanity. So where are all the people? Why do we never see them? Where's the management structure? Fine, Gendou is commander-in-chief, where's all the people who report to him? Imagine if Tim Cook or Elon Musk only met a dozen people on a day-to-day basis, and they just make machines people buy. This is a stab at Gundam only ever having 10-20 people in the entire army, and everything in the armed forces that's not a gundam being essentially irrelevant but existing anyway (the JSDF in EVA is also a dig at this).

The whole reason for NERV existing is to critique Gundam. I won't even bother elaborating on "wouldn't it be cool if child soldiers drove giant robots ACTUALLY NO IT IS AWFUL" because that's kinda obvious.

Before Anno lost his fucking mind, the intent was that EVA would be a pastiche of Gundam.

I don't care. Your one-fits-all list is not something that will actually help anyone if it doesn't take into consideration what that person likes.
In this case, I'd even argue that he might find some things on there that he'll enjoy a lot. Katanagatari could be something he might enjoy for the action and style.
But for many people, your list would not fit at all.

Also, you have HxH on there twice. If you meant to say that both of its anime should be watched, there are better ways to do that. And, frankly, the 2011 version is pretty bland as an adaptation, as it's worse than the manga but provides nothing of its own.

My mistake, I didn't read well enough, but so far I recd 2 anime that he has seen already. Why so much drama, mistakes happen?

I still don't get what you mean by this. He says he likes mecha, horror and shonen. True, I haven't got any mecha, and good horror anime is almost non-existent, but the others are mostly shonen anime. Why do you think they are not appropriate to recommend here?

Again, if the person wants shonen anime (among the other 2 which I don't have experience in), and I gave them the anime that are IMO the best shonen anime, why doesn't my list help?

Agree to disagree. The 2011 version is the best version. It's has good animation, phenomenal soundtrack and voice acting.

No. Not most.

It has shit direction and cinematography, and the voice acting in the 1999 version was better. Whether you like the animation better depends on whether you prefer cel or digital. But visually, it's severely lacking.
You can't just make a shot for shot adaptation of a manga like HxH and expect it to work as an anime.

I feel like I have to get Aquarion just based on merit.

I'm up to episode 10 of Bebop, it's a fun time - that OST is superb! And the CGI used is overbearing like I've noticed it can be in some others, it's rather tasteful.

Today I learned that Power Rangers is a whole genre of entertainment. Who would have known.

Ngl, Sleepy Princess and Elaina looks fucking sweet. I've put them on my list to watch for after I finish Monogatari series.
