Throughout elementary school my best friend was black. We were bros. We played runescape and hung out every day at recess, and occasionally beat up other kids. I remember one day some asshole classmate tricked me into saying "nigger", by making me try to pronounce the name of Nigeria that was on a map. So he (my friend) discreetly informed me what that really meant lol. But, that sort of political stuff usually never came up, even though we were always cussing and trying to outdo each other in edginess.
Another time, many years later, I met an African man at my city's club for playing Go (i.e. the Chinese board game, 圍棋). He was just learning the game for the first time, and so I tried my best to get him started with some opening moves and whatnot. He kept coming back and playing me over and over again. He was very methodical and determined. By the end of the summer he actually beat me, without any handicap stones. I hope he still plays the game. I still remember the thick accent he had, and his glasses.
