Hey, Anons. I'm in a bit of an anime rut. I haven't watched an anime that I liked since I watched Haruhi last September, and I'm thirsty for a new, good one.

A little about my taste: I primarily like action or thriller anime, but I also like some non-action stuff, such as KonoSuba, Haruhi, and Monogatari.

My favorites:

Thanks for these recommendations. I have already watched the first six episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho but dropped it after that because I didn't particularly like them, so do you have a specific cutoff point for me to watch to to decide if I should continue watching? I've heard that the beginning of the series is quite different from the meat of it.

(By the way, I would've watched Steins;gate by now but I bought the VN and am going to play that instead.)

People watch anime seasonally? I guess I’m officially a fan dub era boomer. Anyone have a romance anime suggestion? My gf wants to watch your lie in April and it sounds like a boring tearjerker. Toradora or Clannad better? Any other suggestions?

I’ve never watched a romance anime but girls eat that shit up apparently.

Clannad sucks ass, no idea about the other two. Escaflowne, G Gundam, Sacred Seven, the Aquarion trilogy, Buddy Complex, Godannar, Zegapain, and Full Metal Panic are strong in the romance department. Technically Cross Ange does it really well too, but damn is it raunchy and most of the romance elements are in the second half. BTW I'm >>960377

For almost 2 decades, ever since speedsubbing became popular in the mid 00s, yeah. Initially it was fansubbers competing with each other to be the fastest to release subtitles, but now it's official simulcasts by licensing companies releasing subbed anime the same day it airs in Japan. It's crazy what the fansub community was able to do to anime localization in the west. 20 years ago the standard process was they'd acquire the rights to something, fully dub it, then release it on TV or DVD. But streaming got popular in the 00s, so they started doing their own streaming services, Funimation was one of the first legal companies to start showing anime subtitled on their own platform, though it was often delayed by weeks from the original broadcast. They noticed fansubbers were getting faster and faster and pushing releases out, even managing to get subtitles out same day or next day. But it wasn't until Crunchy Roll went legitimate that it really lit a fire under the ass of Funimation and other established licensing companies, because CR had originally been a pirate site that stole fansubs for its streaming platform, it knew the value of being the first to get subs, and it prioritized speedsubbing simulcasts over anything else.

And now here we are. More anime is made each season than ever before, yet it all gets subtitles released same day or as close to it as possible. I never would have thought this was possible 20 years ago.

Watch KareKano. It's the ultimate romance anime and you will have a blast regardless if you like romance or not. It has a bunch of animators that work in action shows despite it being a normal romcom, so the result is pretty interesting.
