I'm trying this right now and when I paste an image on another image it won't let me hand tool one layer freely it just moves the whole thing around

Are you using the hand tool to try move an image on the canvas?
You use the move tool for that, the mouse at the top of the toolbar, (V) on your keyboard.
Photoshop works the same way. The Hand tool is not for that purpose

yeah, I've been trying pixlr and it works pretty well, gimp is still a bit much for my brainlet mind but thanks anyway

I've tried gimp recently as an alternative. Compared to PS when talking about functions it lacks, lacks as hell. But that's not what minds me, what blows my mind is how counterintuitive and wearisome everything is. Are all freemium softwares like that?

Is photopea better than gimp?

I use inkscape (although it is a vectors graphics editor, so it's more like illustrator, I guess), pretty easy to use. for some things I use gimp or paint.net
