What are some websites and venues for self-publishing? Preferably ones that allow readers to view illustrated interludes. I'm thinking of having a column with text inside overlaid on top of a picture like a frame. One of the artists I'm looking at for the project is expensive, and I don't want to end up paying $1600 for something that most readers won't be able to see.

With that being said, is it better to distribute for free and ask for donations or to ask for a small price like $2.99 to make something of a profit? I feel like most people will see
