Hi,

I stopped paying attention to Anime in about 2003. What's happened since then movie wise that I could potentially see on Netflix? last time I remember, people online were still freaking out about Evangelion. I'm sure the dust has settled with that series since then. So what's new? I don't even know what's new with Eva.

Damn dude. Just start with Code Geass and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. After that half the popular stuff was whatever KyoAni released that year and then Trigger and now a tie between Hero Academia and Demon Slayer to fill in the void after Bleach ended. I'll throw you a mecha recommendarion chart if you end up hating the new stuff.

There’s a tetralogy of Evangelion films called Rebuild of Evangelion, with the first one releasing back in 2007, and the 4th and final one releasing in Japan literally 4 days ago. The tetralogy starts out as a retelling of NGE’s story with some differences, but the story ends up clearly going in a different direction during the second film. Basically Hideki Anno made these movies because he could “recreate EVA as he wanted it to be” without technological and budget limitations.

If you were a fan of Cowboy Bebop, then Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy might be of interest, both were done by the same guy. Like the other anon said, Gurren Lagann and Code Geass might be good to watch if you want more mecha.

You also missed out on FLCL coming to the US in 2003, as well as the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime. The 2003 FMA anime is good, but you should instead watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood from 2009, as that series follows the manga’s storyline, while the 2003 series tells a completely different story after episode 25 (The manga wasn’t finished until 2010).
