The only one I can make is an extension of what I said in my first post, which depends on if you like the same sort of thing. Arise takes place before The Major is what you see in the original move/Stand Alone Complex, so she has to gather up her team. Thus, she only has her full team in the last OVA, the two extra episodes Alternative Architecture, and the movie. As such, the show got a lot more enjoyable near the end, because I love watching a professional team getting stuff done.
The mystery and cyber crime aspect is also relatively similar to Stand Alone Complex. Animation's also decent, but the character designs are kind of rough, since they're all 10-20 years younger.
If you're more into the philosophical stuff, though, I don't think it really pulls it off as well the original or Stand Alone Complex, so you can probably skip it if that's what you like most about the series.
