Whenever I'm looking for an anime, I usually see what genre I'm looking for/in the mood for, and google a ranker list of that genre of anime. It's worked for me so far, maybe a couple misses that weren't exactly my preference, but you'll have that with anything.

The anime I've watched the most often are Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy. They all share the same director from what I understand.

These series just give me a sense of belonging like no other and they're all pretty entertaining.

If you want some food for thought though, I'd go with either Serial Experiments Lain, Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei or Kaiba.

Sword of the Stranger. The plot is a little meh but the fights are some of the best in anime. It's also a movie so it won't take up too much of your time. Also
