Because that's simply when they get bored of making their gibberish noise. And after that, they have nothing left to do, so, why live? Crickets might actually be genetically suicidal. Once their 90 days of fun is over, they don't see a reason to keep on living, so, they just die. It might be for some other reason or whatever, but that just sounds interesting.
Anyhow, yeah. Basically, the idea that they have their own complex language is really cool, but I don't think that they're capable of making use of that, even if it's something programmed in there. The telling jokes to each other thing, I've zero idea how we as humans would be able to observe them doing that, so I'm not really touching on that. I couldn't find any source on it either, so, maybe it's just said so and that's that, doesn't mean it's true. But that could tie back into the self-entertainment thing I said before, I mean, maybe they're not telling jokes, but they just find the gibberish that they spew to each other funny. They have a lot of ways to say things, so, they can have prolonged fun with it. That sounds pretty likely to me, if they can even find things funny.
There might be a whole roster of reasons that you can think of for doing what they do, be it for self, a social, or defense mechanism, but at the end of the day, they're like a group of friends in the other sides of the movie theater, constantly yelling out stuff to each other that nobody understands except them. That's putting it a bit harsh, cause they're still not much of a problem unless they're very up-close to you, but yeah, they're still just being annoying.
