Once you start getting into the practice of learning other languages picking up new ones seems easier. Spanish is an easy start, and most people on a day to day basis don't interact with enough Chinese to justify it. On the other hand, knowing what some assholes are saying in Spanish while pretending you don't may give you enough of a time gap to draw and shoot them before they shoot you.
