>>8702531It's not an either or proposition. The FBI was only nominally interested in the site because Anonymous was shaking down organizations that they were probably investigating, like Scientology. Most anons got away with a slap on the wrist for things that could rise to the level of terrorism. Certain political actors took note of the Scientology protests and decided this would be a good site to build a movement, since there was just an explosion of outrage surrounding a literal who religion. Focusing the attention of anons towards certain things created a feedback loop where people come to 4chan for those things, and 4chan looks for those things in the wild.
