A general rule of thumb, your bodies love having set schedules. Circadian rhythm. If you made it a task that you always went to sleep at 10pm, and always woke up at 6am, your body will eventually get used to it, and set your internal clock around that.
The issue comes when people don't go to sleep at the same time, or wake up at the right time. (Mostly due to real world responsibilities like work), if you never have a set sleep schedule you may find some times you'll just not get a good sleep. Also things like a lack of exertion (tiring yourself out helps for sleeping) or looking at a computer screen before sleeping don't help
I can only guess what your living with, I might be completely off the mark. But a set sleep schedule might help if you have not tried it.
