In the Forest of Fallen Giants, the structures felt as if they were real ruins; that people lived there, fought there, died there. The rubble isn't there 'just because' -- you even see how it was all destroyed in a siege by invading giants.
On the other hand, the level design of that accursed wall is dull, repetitive, impractical, and it doesn't feel "lived in"...
