Kelly sits in silence in The Widowmaker Society’s locker room. Last time she was backstage during a show, she was attacked by Kanako, used as a stepping stone for the leader of Deathproof to make a statement. All Kelly had wanted to do that night was find Sheila and congratulate her on her performance in the rumble, and after their pleasant encounter in Club Xtacy, maybe get her number. But Kanako ensured she never got the opportunity. Thanks to her, all Kelly experienced instead was pain and humiliation.
She knew she should be incensed, hungry for the chance at revenge that tonight’s match represented. Normally she would be.
But now?
All she could think of was her attempts to get the better of Nikki Kade, and how that ended in failure. How she tried to get back on the right track against The Boston Crab, only to fall short against her too. All that was left was to focus on her role as Kasumi’s tag partner, and they even got an opportunity to earn a shot at the champs. All they had to do was beat The Bubblegum Crisis. And that opportunity slipped through their fingers, because Kelly once again let herself down and let her team down.
So how could she be hungry for a shot at Deathproof tonight? With the way things were going lately, odds were she’d just deepen her own sense of melancholy by losing in humiliating fashion to a team led by a woman who attacked her in cold blood.
