I have been researching this case for quite a bit now and I’m leaving with quite a few questions about the killer duo themselves.
1. How does a friendship like this even form? What make Leonard think “This man is going to be my accomplice in my crimes” instead of “I think this young kid in his 20’s should be my first victim”?
2. How did Leonard even trust Charles Ng with his dark depraved fantasies in the beginning? Did he see something in Charles that said he could trust him with said secrets? Did he consider the possibility of Ng being a normal sane man and reporting him to authorities as soon as he began revealing his dark desires?
3. Since Ng was 15 years younger than Lake being in his early-mid 20’s during the killings and Lake being in his late 30’s-early 40’s, do you think Lake was the true evil “dominant” mastermind behind the killings and Ng was just the meek “submissive” tag along that went along with Lake even if he thought Lake was going “too far/sadistic”? Do you think Lake was manipulating Ng to partake in his crimes since as I mentioned before Ng was a young kid, barely an adult during the crime spree and Lake was a full matured grown man?
4. When Lake and Ng were arrested and Lake committed suicide, did Ng revert to a “sane rational man rid of the manipulative older influence over him” or did he remain psychopathic?
5. Adding to question 3 about the dominant-submissive dynamic, do you think that since Lake was significantly older than Ng, did he manipulate Ng into becoming this sick person that he wasn’t before? Do you think that Ng tried to tell Lake at points that he was going too far but being a young kid was easily manipulated out of this thinking or even berated for trying to tell Lake he was being too extreme, resulting in compliance from the much younger Ng?
Thats all I have.
