>>16004097I worded that wrong, I guess it is overused, just like how you could consider something like "definitely" overused as well, but, I guess I meant more so if you think that's it's devoid of all meaning, at the point that it is. Because people like to think so.
I feel like it's not at that point. From what I've noticed, unless I'm the ones who's confused, the only reason people believe so is because one person who used to make videos back in 2016. He was really popular and used the word literally a lot, and it became a big joke to make fun of him for it, because he was a pretty vilified person. Before him, I really never saw it getting trashed on so badly. So, I feel that the word is looked down upon simply because of that. Just one guy. Outside of his case, I really haven't the word get abused to a point where it's lost all meaning or doesn't work for it's purpose any longer. People do use it a lot, sure, but I don't see how it's milked dry as people make it out to be, at least not yet. It's just another word used to emphasize, like "just". You don't see "just" getting so much hate, do you?
So, at least from my experience, more so than the word itself actually getting overused, in reality it's the belief that it's overused that has garnered so much hate over it, because of a couple or so specific people that were widely made fun of for it. You're not actually doing anything bad or inherently inarticulate by saying "literally", at least not for any real reason, you're just made to think so because of basically a meme. Imagine if it were "just" instead, that got targeted. Or like you said, "definitely". We use so many of the same words so often, but the one that gets looked down and is apparently devoid of meaning is only "literally", among a couple or so others.
My point isn't really anything, but, it's interesting how you can come to think using these specific words makes you dumb, when it doesn't actually signify anything. It's just a conditioning.
