>hurr durr just read the New Testament, the Old Testament doesn't apply to Christians!True, Christians are not subject to Mosaic Law, but the Old Testament is an essential part in the story of man coming to understand God and the need for a Savior (plus Mosaic Law has very strong social codes for reasons which are obvious today). The Old Testament has books of wisdom and books of worship, stories to inspire us in our darkest moments and stories to remind us of what makes us special. But even discarding all of that, starting at the New Testament is like opening a regular book in the middle and thinking you'll understand the entire narrative.
I recommend a guided reading program. The Bible Project has a great year-long one that provides historical and philosophical context, which can be really helpful when first getting started. That's the one I used when I first read the Bible as a lifelong atheist, and it helped me a lot. Now, I've read the Bible through multiple times in multiple translations, and still do daily study as part of my regular devotionals.
Good luck friend. I'll stick around in the thread to answer any questions you might have.
