It is a natural part of life and we shouldn't get to caught up in it but I find myself self inserting like what if that happened to me and it makes me want to prevent it. There's not much individual people can do though so I see your point about not giving a shit. I don't react like "WHY GOD WHY DID THIS RANDOM PERSON I DON'T KNOW GET KILLED" but I think about it spreading and eventually effecting me or people I care about then I think about it from the perspective of the person who got killed and they probably feel the same where they wouldn't want it happening to them or their family like a butterfly effect
