>>15092593cope and seethe unfortunately. in modern english "meal" always means mealtime unless it's in a compound word, in which case it can refer to a crop. ご飯 means COOKED rice, the prepared dish, with the same exact frequency that it means mealtime
certainly similar ideas when it comes to origins, but the funny part about japanese is that if someone says "i'm going to go eat ご飯" with no additional context it isn't clear whether they're having dinner or just a bowl of rice
