We realize false accusations will only infest the mind until some other event happens to distract them (hence why Media is the way it is). But people want a knee jerk reaction. They want to piss off and rile you up and make you lash out.
Denying that, denied them of the thrill they were seeking. You became boring to talk about, because you never played into the games. You were probably like me, sitting off in the corner, attempting to change the topic, steer the conversation back towards relevancy. But all they could do is yap and yap about "Omg how could he do such a thing?!" like it was the event to end all of mankind, and look at you as if you're crazy for not caring.
Eventually they stopped caring about you, because they knew they couldn't get a reaction out of you, so YOU became the target of all that gossip. Why? Because the weak minded pick on the ones with contemption. Same reason a fat kid picks on a skinny kid. They view it as weakness.
It sucks. And it seems almost everyone I encounter in the real world is like that. The only people I can relate to, and have actual meaningful conversations with, are completely faceless entities in my life. That is more horrifying, and lonely, then anything else.
