As for 'discouraged', this only occurs when we go, or are forced to go, dark.
That's when it troubles me the most, being suddenly cut off while having no idea what is most needful to know, and no way to reach out to gain insight. I only feel it when things appear to have gone south.
And, without info, how could you possiby know it's not actually the herald of something-ominous comes thismway? Like SHTF BAD, possibly with INCOMING OH DEAR LORD just around the corner.
As much as being alone has its merits, I think not so much if the world looks as if it's about to implode, 'last rites' and similar thingamajigs being amuch more preferable scenario. I'm an information junkie. Light's out, for me, is akin to what I suspect needing a fix may feel like.
