Tooth decay is caused by multiple factors. Bacteria is a direct cause, true, but if you do not provide the correct environment for bacteria to grow, it is not likely to become a big problem by itself.
1. Mouth breathing grows bacteria.
2. Starches stuck to teeth grow bacteria. You must clean teeth whenever food sticks. Curiously, sugar easily rinses away with water, whereas starches often require brushing or flossing.
3. Hypothyroidism creates dry mouth and poor quality saliva. Alkaline saliva is necessary to prevent tooth decay
4. Vitamin K does something good to the quality of saliva such that teeth often look cleaner, glistening and moist
If you have a stubborn bad taste, I recommend eating onions and horseradish. They both have antibacterial effects. Eat a couple tiny bits of raw onion as you're cutting it up too. Incorporate things like that in your diet occasionally to help tame bacterial overgrowth.
