A life only made up of happiness and bliss would not be a life worth living, it would become even more repetitive than it already is to some with such risks.
Perhaps we will never be able to grasp the true nature of our existence. You can attribute cruelness and carelessness to a unthinking universe as much as you can to God, but at the end of the day that is only our way to see the matter, limited by our human condition.
